Review

There are few days as important in a person’s life as their wedding day. And there are few images as important in their life as the pictures from that day. Wedding photography, good wedding photography, is a photographic discipline, blending camera, lighting, posing and business skills. Each successful wedding photographer develops special skills and secrets during their time in the profession. Many guard their secrets, while others openly share them with other photographers. That’s what ‘Professional Secrets of Wedding Photography’ is all about. This new book by Doug Box is an in depth insight into his many years of successful wedding and portrait photography.

The book is well laid out and full of outstanding wedding images. Many of which include detailed lighting diagrams so the reader will better understand the technique used. Doug’s work and instruction is not just of the bride and groom, but all the elements of the wedding. From flowers to cake, children to parents, his images reveal the true emotions behind successful wedding pictures.

I most enjoyed Doug’s narrative, instructions and conclusions to many of his major images. I found ‘Professional Secrets of Wedding Photography’ to be a well-crafted and highly instructional book. If you’re thinking about becoming a wedding photographer or are already shooting wedding images, this book is a ‘must’ for your library.
