Review:

Helen Boursier is no stranger to the art and craft of photography and has written over eight books on the subject. The blend of her photographic work and proficiency with words make "Family Portrait Photography" a joy to view and read. While there are some excellent studio images, for the most part this book covers the many aspects of what I call the ‘Environmental Portrait’. There are few single subject portraits here, Helen takes on the much more challenging assignment of shooting small and large families together. And best of all, her subjects all seem to harmonize into will composed and interesting candid images.

These brilliant images are not an accident, Helen takes the reader through every step of the family portrait process. There is information on preparing your subjects, developing style, selecting and using props, posing & lighting techniques, locations, presentations, and much more. All this information is intertwined with some great concepts on marketing, promotion and business practices. The book leads the reader, step by step, through all the necessary aspects of the successful ‘Environmental Portrait’.

"Family Portrait Photography" is a great portfolio of well crafted images that have both style and flare. Helen knows how to use light, composition, direction and color to advance her work. Don’t miss this new book if you want to broaden your understanding and technique in portrait photography.
