Course Outline & Syllabus
History of Photography
by Brian Ratty

The history of photography is rich with inventors, photographers and dreamers.  While our craft has been around for 164 years, it is still being developed and improved by visionaries, technicians, photographers and artists. What started as just a dream by a handful of dreamers, is today on the verge of another century of change and new horizons. What we do today, will be history tomorrow, what we do tomorrow will be our new challenges.

This workshop will outline over 30 major milestones that have brought us to this new century of possibilities. Each of these milestones is interrelated and interdependent. Each was a building block for this new medium of communications. While there was many more inventions and developments then 30 over the last century and half, due to limitations of space and time we have selected what we feel were ‘the’ key elements. For a summary of these key elements please first review our ‘Photography Time Line’ page. Further, when ever possible, we have included links to other web sites so you can continue your own research.

Enjoy and learn from this fascinating journey back into the history of our craft and track it’s progress forward into this new century.

There is one free sample lesson and our 'time line' for this workshop. To access the remaining lessons you may obtain a user id and password by registering at Admissions.
